How does tooth whitening work?
Tooth whitening is a chemical process. The peroxide in the whitening agent breaks down into tiny molecules that cause discolouration. Because of this process, the internal colour of the entire tooth is lightened, and the structure of the tooth is not altered at all. Enamel, dentine and any fillings, crowns or veneers are not affected or harmed by the peroxide.
How long does tooth whitening last?
Tooth whitening results are very stable. Depending on your nutrition and lifestyle habits, tooth whitening may need to be topped up periodically, which is perfectly safe.

How do I care for my teeth after whitening?
Talk to your dentist about maintaining the colour of your teeth, and the products that are available for keeping the effect. Each individual’s lifestyle needs to be assessed but good oral hygiene and regular visits to the hygienist will help to maintain the effect for longer.
Some people find that their teeth are sensitive for the first few days after treatment, but this wears off after a short while. Your dentist will advise you of the products you can use to counteract this.
